The Star 15 occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1730 metres on a southeast-facing slope, south of the Swannell River and approximately 12.5 kilometres northeast of Aiken Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by volcaniclastic rocks of the Permian Lay Range Assemblage, fine clastic sedimentary rocks of the Upper Devonian to Permian Big Creek Group and ultramafic rocks of the Lower Jurassic Polaris Ultramafic Complex. To the northeast calcareous sedimentary rocks of the lower Cambrian Atan Group and fine clastic sedimentary rocks of the Neoproterozoic Ingenika Group are exposed.

Locally, a sheared gabbro hosts chalcopyrite mineralization.

A rock sample (81) assayed 0.87 per cent copper (Assessment Report 35680).

Work History

The area has been historically explored in conjunction with the nearby Ridge (MINFILE 094C 164) occurrence and a complete regional exploration history can be found there.

In 2007, 2014 and 2015, U. Mowat completed programs of prospecting and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Star property.
